The Eight Guardians of the World are mentioned in Mipham Rinpoche's famous Verses of the Eight Noble Auspicious Ones.

They are composed of four Hindu gods:

  1. Mighty Brahma,
  2. Shambhu (aka Shiva),
  3. Narayana (aka Vishnu), and
  4. Sahasrajna, The Thousand-Eyed (aka Indra);

and the Four Great Kings:

  1. Dhritarashtra,
  2. Virudhaka,
  3. Virupaksha, and
  4. Vaishravana.
