Four essential characteristics of karma (Skt. catvāri karmasvabhāva; Tib. ལས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ་བཞི་, Wyl. las kyi ngo bo bzhi) —

  1. a karma is determined (Wyl. las nges pa)
  2. a karma multiplies (Wyl. las 'phel che ba)
  3. a karma that has not been accomplished [by oneself] cannot be experienced (Wyl. las ma byas dang mi 'phrad pa)
  4. a karma does not dissipate [by itself] (Wyl. las byas pa chud mi za ba)
