Maha-Ati Yoga Zabchö Gongpa Rangdrol, 'The Gathered Peaceful Deities’ Naturally Liberated Wisdom Mind’, is a terma cycle of Dudjom Lingpa which contains a vast number of practices and texts, and among them many focused on Chenrezik.

Revelation of the Terma

In his biography, Dudjom Lingpa recounts[1]:

“In the year I turned twenty-four [1858], at night on the tenth day of the first spring month I met the great Bodhisattva Tukjé Chenpo, Supreme Compassion. He conferred upon me the complete empowerment and scriptural transmission for the text outlining the means of accomplishment called 'The Gathered Peaceful Deities’ Naturally Liberated Wisdom Mind'. 'My child, if you are able to transcribe this, it’s possible it will be of some help to others. Keep that in mind'. But the words of a lesser lama named Répön caused the auspicious connection to go amiss.

In another part of his biography, Dudjom Lingpa recounts[2]:

'In the past, I was twenty-three years old, one night in a dream a white man with a gold topknot appeared saying he was Lord Protector Chenrezi, All-Seing Eyes. He told me, “My child, by the force of the excellent karma and merit, and by the might of pure aspirations throughout many previous lifetimes, you are a fortunate individual who has perfected the qualities of the stages and paths awakening. In the present you have the good karma to bring some benefit to beings and the doctrine. Therefore, eat this box”. It was a thumb-sized crystal box. Upon its surface the letters Om Hung Tram Hri Ah shone in five colors, like a reflection appearing in a mirror. As soon as he handed it to me, I swallowed it. The exalted bodhisattva proclaimed, “This is called Maha-Ati Yoga Zabchö Gongpa Rangdrol The Profound Doctrine Overflowing into the Expanse of Wisdom Mind’. Then he dissolved into me.”

Propagation

In a prophecy given to him by a dakini through a vision, Dudjom Lingpa was told that[3]:

“As for the cycle called Maha-Ati Yoga Zabchö Gongpa Rangdrol ‘The Profound Doctrine Overflowing into the Expanse of Wisdom Mind’— Even fewer disciples will practice that.”
