San Jose 1989 - At Rigpa’s invitation, His Holiness the Dalai Lama taught in Santa Cruz and San Jose in October. The Santa Cruz public talk was given to 10,200 people. Tickets for the Dzogchen teachings sold so fast that the venue was changed at the last minute to a sports hall in San Jose that seats over 5,000. It was sold out. Four days before the Dalai Lama gave these teachings he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. These were his first public appearances since the announcements and he was greeted by standing ovations at both venues.
