Lama Rangrig, aka Dungse Pema Rangrig Dorje Rinpoche

Lama Rangrig, aka Dungse Pema Rangrig Dorje Rinpoche (b.1955), is one of the grandsons of Golok Serta Rinpoche, and one of the main lineage holders of the Dudjom Töluk tradition of the Dudjom Tersar, a lineage which flourished from the Namkha Khyung Dzong community of practitioners established by Degyal Rinpoche.

Birth, Family

Lama Rangrig was born in 1955 as the son of Tsokhang Choktrul Tsewang Dorje[1] and Mayum Tsering Yangzom. He is also a grandson of Golok Serta Rinpoche, one of the three main students of Degyal Rinpoche, a direct disciple of Dudjom Lingpa who established the Namkha Khyung Dzong community of practitioners in Western Tibet, around the Mount Kailash. His family line, the Avo-Lishudhakortsang, has a patrilineal clan connection to Dudjom Lingpa, and numbers among the “A-Chak-Dru-Sum” clans descended from Nupchen Sangye Yeshe, one of the twenty-five disciples of Guru Rinpoche.

Lama Rangrig spent over 25 years with his father, Tsokhang Choktrul Tsewang Dorje, who was an incarnation of Tsogkhang Rinpoche, a direct disciple of Dudjom Lingpa. From his father Tsokhang Choktrul Tsewang Dorje, Lama Rangrig received many teachings from the Dudjom Töluk tradition of the Dudjom Tersar, including:

Studying in Mindroling Nyingma College in India

Later, Lama Rangrig studied at the Mindroling Monastery college in India for 7 years, pursuing higher Nyingma education and Buddhist studies. This also allowed Lama Rangrig to become fluent in many languages including Tibetan, Sanskrit, Indian, and Nepalese.

Receiving more teachings and empowerments from Dudjom Tersar holders

Lama Rangrig also received the whole Dudjom Tersar lineage and Nyingmapa empowerments, teachings, and instructions from Dudjom Rinpoche and Thinley Norbu Rinpoche among others.

Activity

Lama Rangrig is now the main lineage holder of Riwo Tsegya Monastery, located near Mount Kailash. This monastery was built by his grandfather, Golok Serta Rinpoche, and by his father, Tsokhang Choktrul Rinpoche. As such, Lama Rangrig is also one of the main lineage holders of the Dudjom Tröma Namkha Khyung Dzong tradition.
