To the six consciousnesses mentioned in the abhidharma texts of the basic vehicle are added the defiled mental consciousness or emotional consciousness (Wyl. nyon yid) and the all-ground consciousness (Skt. alaya vijñana; Tib. kunshyi namshé; Wyl. kun gzhi rnam shes).
