Lado (Wyl. bla rdo) is a support, often a stone, for the protectors to remain. That connection between the la do and the dharmapala comes about through ritual practices that link specific objects to various Dharma protectors. It’s as if the object becomes their favourite thing. Once that connection is made, the dharmapala will be attracted to wherever the object is kept.
