Ribur Rinpoche (1923-Janurary 2006) was the main teacher of Richard Gere. He stopped breathing at Sera Mé Monastery on the full moon during H.H. the Dalai Lama's Kalachakra empowerment in Amaravati, India. His root guru was Pabongka Rinpoche. He was known for constantly stressing the importance of keeping the authentic Buddha-Dharma alive in the hands of well-trained geshes and khenpos for the future of the teachings.
