Eight subcontinents (Wyl. gling phran brgyad) — there are two subcontinents for each of the four continents which surround Mount Meru according to the cosmology of the Abhidharma. The eight subcontinents are:
- Deha (Wyl. lus)
- Videha (Wyl. lus 'phags)
- Cāmara (Wyl. rnga yab)
- Aparacāmara (Wyl. rnga yab gzhan)
- Sāthā (Wyl. yo ldan)
- Uttaramantriṇa (Wyl. lam mchog 'gro)
- Kurava (Wyl. sgra mi snyan)
- Kaurava (Wyl. sgra mi snyan gyi zla)
