Dzagyal Monastery (Wyl.rdza rgyal dgon) was founded by the First Dodrupchen Jikme Trinle Özer and Jikme Gyalwe Nyugu in the Dzachukha area. It became the main seat of Jikme Gyalwe Nyugu and his famous disciple Patrul Rinpoche. Later, it became the home of Kunzang Dechen Dorje (Pema Kunzang), and of Patrul Namkha Jikmé, a son of Dudjom Lingpa, who visited the place twice.
In 1878, Khyentse Tulku Dzamling Wangyal, son of Dudjom Lingpa, went with his father to Dzagyal Monastery to receive teachings from Kunzang Dechen Dorje (Pema Kunzang).
