Shantideva (Skt. Śāntideva; Tib. Shyiwa Lha; Wyl. zhi ba lha) (c.685-763) - the author of The Way of the Bodhisattva (Skt. Bodhicharyavatara; Tib. Chönjuk). He was a Mahayana scholar and siddha, and a follower of the Prasangika-Madhyamika method of Buddhapalita and Chandrakirti. He also wrote the Shikshasamucchaya [Skt.], the Compendium of Training, and the Sutrasamucchaya, a compendium of the major Mahayana teachings. See also Nalanda.
