The eighteen great sciences or fields of knowledge (rigpé nechen chobgyé [Tib.]) are:

4) algebra (grangs),
5) grammar (sgra),
6) medicine (gso spyad),
7) rules of behavior (chos lugs),
8) craftsmanship (bzo),
9) archery (’phongs),
10) logic (gtantshigs),
11) yoga (rnal ’byor),
12) study (thos pa),
13) memorization (dran pa),
14)observation of the stars (skar ma’i spyad),
15) astrology (rtsis mig),
16) yantra-yoga (’phrul ’khor),
17) stories of the past (sngon rabs), and
18) history (sngon byung rigs).
