Saraswati is one of the daughters of Chatral Sangye Dorje and of Sangyum Kamala. Through a mother, she is a granddaughter of Tulshuk Lingpa.

She has been recognized as an incarnation of Sera Khandro, one of the teachers of Chatral Sangye Dorje.
