Chagdud Sherab Gyaltsen
Chagdud Sherab Gyaltsen (Wyl. lcags mdud shes rab rgyal mtshan) was born in 1459 in Nyarong. At 25 he went to Kathok monastery to further his Dharma studies. At 33, he went back to establish a monastery, and in 1491 he restored Chagdud Gonpa. Sherab Gyaltsen was called Chagdud, which means “iron knot”, after he folded an iron sword into knots with bare hands. Chagdud also became the name of his monastery and of that area in Nyarong. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche was his fourteenth incarnation.
