Lama Drakpo Taphur, aka Lama Drakpo Tamdrin Phurba (Tib. བླ་མ་དྲག་པོ་རྟ་ཕུར་ཟུང་འཇུག་གི་དྲིལ་སྒྲུབ་ཟབ་མོ་, Wyl. bla ma drag po rta phur zung 'jug gi dril sgrub zab mo), ‘The Profound Combined Sadhana of the Wrathful Lama Union of Hayagriva and Vajrakilaya’ is the innermost secret practice of the Tsokye Tuktik terma cycle of Dudjom Rinpoche[1].

Purpose

Lama Drakpo Taphur is a wrathful yidam, combination of Hayagriva and Vajrakilaya.

Content

Lama Drakpo Taphur is depicted as a black Hayagriva-Vajrakilaya, with a red and a lapis-lazuli head, 6 arms holding sword, snake lasso, iron vajra and phurba, 4 feet trambling on maras, in union with black-blue Vajravarahi. Above the crown of his head is a red Garuda and the lord of the family is Amitayus in union with his consort.

Revelation of the Terma

The practice was revealed by Dudjom Rinpoche in 1929, while he was still in Tibet. According to him, “the Tsokyi Tuktik is the father cycle connected to the Khandro Tuktik mother cycle”[2]. About the Tsokye Tuktik, Dudjom Rinpoche said “For the fortunately connected students, I released the secret seal of the casket spontaneously arisen from the space of awareness”.

Notes

  1. In the actual source texts of the Tsokye Tuktik, the innermost secret form of the lama is Lama Drakpo Taphur, and not Dorje Drolö. But it seems that, as shown on many Tsokye Tuktik thangkas, oral lineage instructions have recommended students to focus on Dorje Drolö practice as the innermost secret form of the lama, considering the importance of the Dorje Drolö cycle in the Dudjom Tersar lineage.
