what needs to be added is a discussion of how the different kaya theories evolved historically; first there were 3 and then later came 4 because of haribadra or I don't know who exactly.--Han

Philippe Cornu does this brilliantly in Manuel de bouddhisme — Philosophie, pratique et histoire. Tome II, Bouddhisme Mahāyāna, pages 66-71. It is very accessible and well sourced.
