Udayana (Skt.; Tib. བདེ་སྤྱོད་, dé chö, Wyl. bde spyod) — a contemporary of the Buddha, he murdered his mother when she tried to prevent him from sleeping with someone else's wife, but through the strength of his practice and determination to purify his crime (one of the five crimes with immediate retribution), when he died he had but a very short rebirth in hell as the fully ripened effect of his crime with immediate retribution and was then later reborn in the god realms and attained the level of a stream-enterer.
