Six "Mother" Nyingma Monasteries
Samye Monastery, built in 810, was consecrated by Padmasambhava. Kathog Monastery, founded during the twelfth century, expanded in 1656. Mindroling Monastery, in central Tibet is the foremost institution of the Nyingma lineage. Palyul Monastery, founded in East Tibet in 1665. Dzogchen Monastery, in East Tibet, established in 1685. Shechen Monastery founded in east Tibet, in 1735.
