The Narthang Tengyur (Wyl. snar thang bstan 'gyur) in 225 volumes, was created in 1741-1742. Upon completion, a set was offered to the Seventh Dalai Lama, Kalzang Gyatso (1708-1757). The woodblocks, kept at Narthang Monastery, were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, but new printing plates have since been made from a surviving copy.
