Gyalwang (Wyl. rgyal dbang) is a title used for some of the very highest lamas, especially in the Kagyü lineage. Translation of the Sanskrit jinendra, it means 'king of the victorious ones', an epithet of the Buddha referring to the fact that he has conquered the four maras.
