Anathapindada (Pali: Anathapindika), whose name literally means “Giver of alms to those without protection” was a wealthy householder and patron of the Buddha. He is most famous for having given the Buddha and his monks the famous Jetavana grove in Shravasti, where the first buddhist vihara or monastery was built.
