Karmapa (Tib. ཀརྨ་པ་, Wyl. karma pa) — the seniormost lama of the Karma Kagyü school, the largest branch of the Kagyü. In Tibet he resided at Tsurpu Monastery. In exile, the home monastery of the Karmapa is Rumtek which is near Gangtok in Sikkim.
