He was one of the main students of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo who gave him the secret name Chime Nangdzé Dorje. He was the custodian of some of Khyentse Wangpo's precious teachings such as the Chimé Pakmé Nyingtik, and a holder of the Rinchen Terdzö.
