The Eight Guardians of the World are mentioned in Mipham Rinpoche's famous Verses of the Eight Noble Auspicious Ones.
They are composed of four Hindu gods:
- Mighty Brahma,
- Shambhu (aka Shiva),
- Narayana (aka Vishnu), and
- Sahasrajna, The Thousand-Eyed (aka Indra);
and the Four Great Kings:
- Dhritarashtra,
- Virudhaka,
- Virupaksha, and
- Vaishravana.
