His teachers included Öntö Khyenrab Chökyi Özer, Drayab Lodrö, Kathok Situ Chökyi Gyatso and Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö. For a large part of his life he stayed in retreat.

- He composed a commentary on the quotations found in Sakya Pandita's Treasury of Valid Reasoning, but it has not survived.
