Yangsi Tulku Palden aka Tulku Urgyen was a young tulku of Pemakö, recognized as the incarnation of Tulku Palden, the younger brother of Dudjom Rinpoche.

Family, Birth and Recognition

Yangsi Tulku Palden was a son of Lama Rigdzin Phuntsok, and the older brother of Tulku Orgyen Phuntsok. Yangsi Tulku Palden was recognized by Dudjom Rinpoche as the reincarnation of his younger brother Tulku Palden. He was born amidst the signs of a great being, in the village of Yuri Gon in the upper Powo region[1].

At a very young age, to the surprise of many, he displayed amazing qualities, yet everyone kept them secret. At some point, Dudjom Rinpoche was invited to Yuri Gon monastery to bestow the empowerments and transmissions of the Rinchen Terdzö. While the Rinchen Terdzö empowerments were still occuring, Dudjom Rinpoche recognized the young boy as the immediate reincarnation of his younger brother, Tulku Palden. After his recognition, he was enthroned by Dudjom Rinpoche amidst the thousands of devotees in Yuri Gon monastery.

Lama Rigdzin Phuntsok recalls seeing the ritual performance for his elder brother, led by Dudjom Rinpoche and assisted by Garwang Sangye Dorje, who was carrying the ceremonial substances and giving them to the young Tulku. At the enthronment ceremony, Dudjom Rinpoche offered the complete representations of wisdom body, speech, and mind, along with many other offerings, to the young tulku. Among the offerings made to Tulku Palden were two old statues: one of Shakyamuni Buddha and one of Tara. Lama Rigdzin Phuntsok later inherited them both.

Training

According to Tulku Orgyen Phuntsok[2]:

Dudjom Rinpoche later took Yangsi Tulku Palden to Kongpo Buchu, Dudjom Rinpoche's main seat in Kongpo in the southern region of Tibet. There, Yangsi Tulku Palden was educated in many fields of study.

Final Years

However, to the dismay of many, Yangsi Tulku Paldem, like his previous incarnation, passed away at a young age. Later, there were a few possible reincarnations of the Tulku who displayed wonderful qualities, but a formal recognition was never made.
