Mantra can be explained briefly in terms of nine principles, or ‘advantages’:
- mantra as deity
- mantra as mandala
- mantra as offering
- mantra as blessing
- mantra as accomplishment
- mantra as enlightened activity
- mantra as shunyata
- mantra as purification
- mantra as similar to a wish-fulfilling jewel
