The buddhas of the ten directions (Tib. ཕྱོགས་བཅུའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ , chok chü sangye, Wyl. phyogs bcu'i sangs rgyas) are mentioned in the sutra ‘The Questions of Ratnacandra’. Some of them, but not all, are also mentioned in ‘The Sutra of the Three Heaps’. They are the following:
- Bhadraśrī (Tib. དཔལ་བཟང་པོ་, pal zangpo, Wyl. dpal bzang po). His name means ‘Glorious Goodness’ and he lives in an eastern buddha realm called Sorrowless (Skt. Aśoka, Tib.མྱ་ངན་མེད་པ་, nya ngen mepa, Wyl. mya ngan med pa).
- Candanaśrī (Tib. ཙན་དན་དཔལ་, tsenden pal, Wyl. tsan dan dpal) His name means ‘Sandalwood Splendour’ and he lives in a southern buddha realm called Joy (Tib. དགའ་བ་, gawa, Wyl. dga’ ba).
- Amitābha (Tib. འོད་དཔག་མེད་, Öpamé, Wyl.‘od dpag med, or Tib.སྣང་བ་མཐའ་ཡས་, nangwa tayé, Wyl. snang ba mtha’ yas). His name means ‘Limitless Light’ and he lives in a western buddha realm called Excellence (Tib. བཟང་པོ་, zangpo, Wyl. bzang po).
- Kusumaśrī (Tib. མེ་ཏོག་གི་དཔལ་, metok gi pal, Wyl. me tog gi dpal). His name means ‘Floral Splendour’ and he lives in a northern buddha realm called Without Conflict (Tib. འཁྲུག་མེད་, trukmé, Wyl. ’khrug med).
- Aśokaśrī (Tib. མྱ་ངན་མེད་པའི་དཔལ་, nya ngen mepé pal, Wyl. mya ngan med pa’i dpal). His name means ‘Glorious One Without Sorrow’ and he lives in a south-eastern buddha realm called Moonlight (Tib. ཟླ་བ་སྣང་བ་, dawa nangwa, Wyl. zla ba snang ba).
- Ratnayūpa (Tib. རིན་པོ་ཆེའི་མཆོད་སྡོང་, rinpoche chö dong, Wyl. rin po che’i mchod sdong). His name means ‘Jewelled Offering Pole’ and he lives in a south-western buddha realm called ‘Decorated with Banners’ (Tib. ཏོག་དང་ལྡན་པ་, tok dang denpa, Wyl. tog dang ldan pa).
- Kusumaśrī (Tib. མེ་ཏོག་དཔལ་, metok pal, Wyl. me tog dpal). His name means ‘Glory of Flowers’ and he lives in a north-western buddha realm called Resounding (Tib. སྒྲ་ལྡན་, draden, Wyl. sgra ldan).
- Revelling in Lesser, Medium, and Higher Super-knowledge (Tib. མངོན་པར་ཤེས་པ་ཆུང་ངུ་དང་འབྲིང་དང་ཆེན་པོས་རྣམ་པར་རོལ་པ་, ngönpar shepa chung ngu dang dring dang chenpö nampar rolpa, Wyl. mngon par shes pa chung ngu dang ’bring dang chen pos rnam par rol pa). A buddha who lives in a north-eastern buddha realm called Happy (Tib. བདེ་ལྡན་, deden, Wyl. bde ldan)
- Prabhāśrī (Tib. སྣང་བའི་དཔལ་,or འོད་དཔལ, nangwé pal or ö pal, Wyl. snang ba’i dpal or ‘od dpal). His name means ‘Glorious Light’ and he lives in a buddha realm below called Vast Expanse (Tib. ཡངས་པ་དང་ལྡན་པ་, yangpa dang denpa, Wyl. yangs pa dang ldan pa).
- Dhanaśrī (Tib. ནོར་དཔལ་, nor pal, Wyl. nor dpal). His name means ‘Glory of Wealth’ and he lives in a buddha realm above called Moonlit (Tib. ཟླ་བ་ཅན་, dawachen, Wyl. zla ba can).
