1002 buddhas of this Fortunate Aeon
1002 buddhas of this Fortunate Aeon (Wyl. sangs rgyas stong rtsa gnyis)—the supreme nirmanakaya buddhas to appear during this Fortunate Aeon.
They are enumerated in detail in the Fortunate Aeon Sutra (Skt. Bhadrakalpikasutra; Wyl. bskalpa bzang po’i mdo). Tertön Sogyal also discovered a mind terma called the Names of the Thousand and Two Buddhas at the treasure site of Marong.
According to the Mahayana, the first are:
- Krakucchandra
- Kanakamuni
- Kashyapa
- Shakyamuni (aka the Buddha of the present)
- Maitreya (aka the Buddha of the future)
- Singha (Wyl. seng ge), "the Lion"
- "Very Luminous" (Wyl. rab gsal)
- "Powerful Sage" (Wyl. thub pa)
- "Flower" (Wyl. me tog)
- "Second Flower" (Wyl. me tog gyis pa)
- "Perfect Eye" (Wyl. spyan legs)
- "General" (Wyl. sde dpon)
- "One with Big Hands(?)" (Wyl. lag chen)
- "Great Strength" (Wyl. stobs chen)
It is said that Dudjom Rinpoche will manifest as the last supreme nirmanakaya buddha of this Fortunate Aeon, by the name of Möpa Tayé (Skt. Adhimukta).
